IH D282 do not need return lines as the nozzle valves are outward opening, not inward like the 361/407 injectors. Higher opening pressures do help with atomization, but is harder on pumps also unless designed for increased pressure load. There are many newer engines with 3500 to 4500 PSI opening pressure, and some still use Stanadyne and other rotary pumps just fine.
