Mike first of all stick a 5 gallon bucket under the distributor to catch parts. Remove the oil filter to give you enough room. I usually cover the oil filter base with a clean rag. Remove the points and condensor. There are two short bolts that holds the breaker plate in place. Also you will have to remove 4 bolts that are on the exterior of the distributor which also hold the plate in place if I recall correctly. Two of the bolts hold the two clips. Remove those and the plate will wiggle out. There will be two weights and two springs. They are probably gummed up. Clean everything up and inspect the two little springs. The hooks get worn in those so the advancement doesnt' work all the way. You should get about 40 degrees of advancement at 1800 rpm. Let us know what you see behind the breaker plate!
