The starter solinoid has a terminal on it intended to bypass the resistor while the starter is cranking: it has 12V on it when (and only when) the solinoid is engaged. You have your coil connected to that terminal but do not have a resistor installed. If you have a 12V coil that does not require a resistor connect the coil + terminal directly to switched 12V. If your coil requires a resistor install one, connecting one end of it to the coil + and the other to switched 12 (leaving the connection to the solinoid in place).
