first thing is to determine if the engine is free or stuck. drain engine oil. check for contaminates. if free, remove spark plugs and make sure decompression lever is on the gas side so little gas starting valves are open. then blow in some auto trans fluid in each cyl. using an air syphoning gun. this will lube pistons and rings. pull valve cover and check all valves for freeness, and lube them also. adjust valves to .019. go through all fuel system with new filters and clean all lines and sediment bowl. and filter housings, as gunk will be settled on bottoms. drain injection pump oil and fill with fresh engine oil. I like to flush with mystery oil while running on gas before filling with fresh oil. need to check the gas side for spark and clean sediment bowl and carb. do the coolant going over thing. grease water pump, one shot 2 max. you basically have to go over the whole tractor and just do one thing at a time. its not a rush thing as it gets pretty involved to set the linkages as per manual. if exhaust pipe has been covered and engine free pretty good chance to get it going with just some of your time and small parts. also check the compression to see what you have before getting too involved. they are a good running engine and last good if taken care of. just don't get in a hurry right off the bat and do a stupid thing like pulling it and popping the clutch with it in gear. you will do engine damage and you don't want that on these obsolete engines. parts are sky high.
