If you will clean the housing and while you have it apart dry it thoroughly by heating it at 100 + degrees by putting it in an oven for a few hours and then coating it with Tung oil it will remain rust free for quite some time. Brass clock pendulums remain bright for up to a year done this way. If the missus will let you use the oven continue to heat the housing for an hour or so after applying the Tung oil(available at home improvement stores)
