I have a 48 model W9 that my dad bought in 1957 It has a fuel pump, but it was just looped off. Gas line went straight to the carb. I run it for years It sure never was short on gas without the pump working. My 600 has fuel pump hooked and working my 650 has it removed with gas straight to carb. I don't know why they were using a pump other than the old F 12 14 20 used the same pump. Rebuild kits are still easy to get. You sure don't need it . It will burn more $4.gas in half a day than I want to buy.
