Did Wico make replacement distributors? What he says sounds like no Wico I've ever seen before. It has always been my understanding 12 volts to the points will cause the points to burn because of low rpm operation (read: lack of dwell time to disipate heat created by the stronger voltage arcing). Am I correct about this? That actually happened to me when I was a kid. I had a '57 Chevy with the ballast resistor wired incorrectly, full 12 volts to the points at all times. I would run until you idled it down for any appreciable length of time, then the points would burn. Before I figured out what was wrong I got pretty good at changing one piece GM points! Luckily the dwell was usually preset right on the money right out of the box. Adios, Dick B.
