I have been having on and off problems with my A surging, stalling, and just acting up at WOT and high RPMs but idles and runs at lower RPMs fine. What happens is when I first start it it runs fine at all speeds, after a few minutes it won't run at higher RPMs without the choke on even when fully warmed up. It seems to get worse as it warms up. However it will idle just fine with the choke open, but rev it up past half speed it will surge and die if the choke isn't closed.
The carburetor is brand new, the floats are adjusted to the correct height. This A has a Pertronix kit so no points or condenser to cause trouble. The sediment bowl is clean, I don't see any dirt in it.
One of my IH repair manuals states that the idle mixture can affect WOT performance. I tried adjusting the iudle mixture at WOT and it only temporarily cured the WOT problems. The idle mixture now doesn't have any effect at WOT.
