Try working the PTO. Maybe you could hook your baler up to it and give it a go? PTO's can be expensive to rebuild. The 1486 comes standard with both 540 and 1000 RPM PTO's, the 1586 only comes with the 1000. Also, try shifting it between High & Low Range, and into Reverse, and also between first through fourth gears. I don't think a broken TA is a deal breaker. Check the steering for excessive play at highway speeds and check the brakes--they are expensive to rebuild on a 1486. Finally, check the rear wheel castings for cracks, because they have been known to fail over time. (One of mine did.) But overall, it is a very good, very powerful, tough and comfortable tractor. I have a 1586, and I'm very happy with it, but I'd rather have the 1486 due to its dual PTO's and greater choice of forward speeds over the 1586. Hugh
