Yes, will be hard to start after running dry... remove the fuel line after the injector pump and crank it to remove air up to that point, dont crank solid or you will heat up the starter and then have another problem... maybe try some starting fluid to help it along, I"ve run my diesel out of fuel before and have done this to get it going
