Most of the major pieces have casting codes. An example would be 3-28-H, where the H is the code for 1938 (according to a post in the archives - I don't have Guy's book with me at the moment, so I'm not 100% sure this is correct, but it's close). For 1942, the code should be L or M or thereabouts; for 1948 somewhere around T, maybe (some letters were skipped in the sequence because they looked too much like others). Anyway, the above should give you enough info to distinguish between a 1942 and a 1948 tractor. If you want to narrow it down further, post a casting code and someone will look it up for you I'm sure.
