Don't have knowledge regards the 9s, but can speak to the 6 series as I own an I-6. The I-6 has a narrower tread, heavy duty front axle, heavy solid cast wheel hubs on the rear (and maybe on the front), a brake in the clutch housing that stops the transmission gears when the clutch is depressed (sort of like a hill holder), and different gears in the transmission. My I-6 has a high speed 4th and a low speed 1st. 3rd is about the same as the normal 4th on an M. Also a pintle hitch is the norm but mine is fitted with a regular drawbar. I think hydraulic brakes were an option as well.
