Set the brakes and go forward, it should not slip at all, it should either overpower the brakes or kill the motor. As long as I am just blading the drive or using the loader, gas use is not to bad, now if you wind it up and put the bush Hog behind it, then it starts drinking gas. I am really happy with my 656U Hydro.
