In my experience, if the push button switch is operated with the pin through the steering support, the switch will be in a slightly different location in the fuel tank support than if the switch is operated with the foot control lever. (Clear as mud?) In other words, if you want to change over the foot operated lever, you will also need to change out the fuel tank rear support.
Another option is go with the cast iron bracket that mounts the starter switch opposite the ammeter/light switch box, on the support column. That option puts the switch up where you can push it with your hand.
