got a 986 here. good match for a 4X16 IH 140 rollover plow in the silt loam we have. pulls good in hi 1, wouldn't want any more at that speed.
also a good match for a 12' tandem disk harrow (20" blades, with drag & cultipacker).
it will pull a 12 shank chisel plow (JD 1600) but it works it pretty hard. this is with dual 15.5X38s, runs out of power first, but not much more than traction.
never ran a 1086, but i see lots more of them for sale. 986 has more cubes but no turbo, so you can't really turn it up much.
other than going on 40 years old, they are good tractors.
