I gotta agree with ltf. If you want economy and ultimate in reliability (especially in cold weather), 12 volts is the only way to go. However there's just something cool about a 6 volt tractor slowly grinding it's way to life, especially when someone not familiar with old tractors is watching.

One of my Farmalls is 6 volt and the other's been converted to an alternator. I like 'em both ways!
