Rollers of any type work to break up clods and prep a seed bed by light compaction. If the soil is mellow and loose, a roller is useful. If it is tight and clay based, it might not do the desired job. Smashing clods into a flat level field of clods makes no better seed bed Been there in north Indiana. JimN
