i did the very same thing as you and scrathced my head and got PO in the procces and ended op takking the pans off both sides mutiple times and adjusting til no other but i found out that the shaft that has to lobes on it with the pins that holds the break ban together and which makes it pull together that the welds on the little lobes had both broken and so the lobes would turn whenever or never so it seemed like they where out of adjustment. they where both broke on both sides on my m after working it only a couple times down the drive way! guess the ole M does have some good power! LOL
