As other post said you dont polarize a reg is the reg made for pos gnd as you probably have torched it. If you still think you need 12v start with gen or an alt then rewire for the new system. As CNKS said there realy is no reason to go to 12v on a C. Just get the present system working they have been working for over 60 plus yrs and will still work.
