My trusty ol 400 is giving trouble and I can't seem to come up with what might be wrong. It starts good, shifts into each gear good but when I let the clutch out, the engine labors then dies. This is with the t/a lever ahead. With the t/a lever pulled back, when I let the clutch out it won't die but I hear a spinning sound coming from the t/a area, and no effort to move the tractor. The rear tires don't even try to move,and with the t/a forward the internal resistance takes over before the power even gets to the rear wheels.
Another note, the t/a has slipped for years, I have just used it in direct drive, and have never had an issue.
Also, I took the shifter off and verified that it is not stuck in 2 gears, as I have had that happen before too. Any ideas??
