Serial number 27997 or higher came with the splined counter shaft. Late type PTO works for them. Not helping you if the serial number doesn't match. May check the date code on the transmission housing to see if it was put on complete. If its dated late febuary 1941 or later it would be almost a sure bet it has the splines. Could still have the splines if dated before that but it gets less likely the earlier it gets. May just have to look. IH did make some adapter PTO parts but would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Last type M pto started in dec. 1942 and was used through the SM.
