Bill: About the only thing moving in the rear end of the tractor if the transmission isn't in gear is the PTO drive train - if the PTO isn't engaged either and your PTO bands are properly adjusted, you've narrowed it down to between the flywheel and the driving portion of the PTO rear assembly. Really don't have a clue what could be making your clank though unless you have a couple of gear teeth somewhere in there that don't like each other and only mate up intermittently.
