H and M won't work. You have the wrong shifter number if its for a regular 300. Number you posted is two piece. Farmall 400 will work. Should find a number near the lower end of the shifter. It will be a different number than whats in the parts book. If your shifter looks like the upper one in the picture or worse it needs work. Other one is close to normal. Sometimes the slot you see in the shifter will be worn 1/4 inch or more wider on some. Welding and some machine work should fix the one you have unless realy junked.
