CG - A test light is little help when diagnosing charging system problems. A working ammeter in the electric box and a digital voltmeter are MUCH better diagnostic tools. Polarize the generator by momentarily jumpering the BAT and GEN terminals on the regulator. Regulators are available thru NAPA, Central Tractor or mail order thru some of the advertisers on this site. Just need to know the year of the tractor. To test system operation (presumes you've got a good, fully charged battery installed and the headlight switch set at the "H" position): 1 - Engine off/ign switch off - Ammeter should read 0. Voltmeter across the battery should read about 6.6 volts. 2 - Engine off/ign switch ON - Ammeter should show -4 to -6 amps. Voltmeter still 6.6 volts. 3 - Engine idling - Ammeter about -4 amps, voltmeter 6.6 volts. 4 - Engine at full RPM - Ammeter +10 to +15 amps, voltmeter 7.2 to 7.6 volts. 5 - Same as above only turn the light switch to "L" (low charge) position. Ammeter should read about +5 amps. Voltmeter about 7.0 to 7.2. Post back if you need a wiring diagram - I think I've got one that will work for a '46 H. Bob M

Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o
