Re the clutch, i note you say tractor has been stored for some time !!

It may be that there is some rust forming on the transmission input shaft and when the clutch is released this rusting is stopping the clutch disc sliding freely so it drags against the fly wheel and causes gear grating.

Ideally if you had good brakes you could start in gear then with the clutch pedal depressed jam on the brakes hard to free off the disc??

Under the clutch housing is a plate which you can remove, then using an inspection light you may be able to see w hat is happening??.
