On the up down trick rate like you called it. You make the orfice with a wide flat groove in one side , flat on the other. Put the flat side so it seals on flat surface for lowereing but when raising the oil goes around outside of orfice and flows through the groove. Orfice has to be some what smaller than size of hole it is fitted in or have flats on a couple sides so oil can go around outer dia easily. IH used a lot of those kind of orfices in different applications.
