i highly highly doubt you're ever going to find an answer to production numbers since records of such are long gone. if there ever was a specific number it would have been wide spread knowledge by now. only number now youll get will be simply speculation and nothing more
as far a splitting hairs on the axle, the straight one number 2781D is used on serial 4464 and down. the one with a very slight curve at the spindle was used on 4465 and up but NOT on the canes and its part number is 3130DX.
early canes used axle 3873D on serials 29006 and down. this axle could be outfitted with taller front spindles for what was known as a 'high wheel' cane.
late canes used axle 6665DX on tractors 29528 and up. these had the spindle hubs cast in and were one height only and were wider than earlier canes.
so which axle are you referring to?
