Once in a while I get pictures or information I would have liked to use right after an article comes out. I've learned to live with that fact. Usually it pops up as a result of the article. The biggest example has to be getting a call from a member of the Heisler family after I did the Heisler article. I generally have success getting information or pictures from sources I know. Blind requests for pictures usually come up empty.
As far as the pictures with the Whirlwind article, I had 3 illustrations of the #8. One was from Servis advertising, two were current pictures of the machine in use. One of them was mostly a picture of the dirt in flight. That picture would have been hard to improve on. The other was used mainly to show the machne itself. A nicely painted one would have been good for that illustration. I had one recent picture of a well-painted #8 but I didn't like the picture itself.
