Wondered about that myself Zackary. Have pulled the gears on the engine using the 3 holes before.
Without the holes a thin puller of some kind would have to be used on the gear teeth edges to remove a camshaft. Hardened edges are easy to chip. Not to mention pressing a gear on the cam already installed.
This site pictures a replacement gear with 3 holes but that could be just the picture.
Always run across something not seen before on the tractors and thats the reason for the question. If there is a solid hub gear it would be good to know.
Also not sure if the poster means the solid hub gear was made after 450 production. 6760DB gear started being installed during 400 production.
