Since the tractor shuts down without popping or missing I am willing to wager that it is starving for gas after the time lapse. Your supply to the carb is partially clogged. I believe your carb has a plug in the fuel bowl. This being the case remove the plug and let all the gas in the bowl run out and once the bowl has emptied observe how much continuous flow exists. You should have a stream the size of a wooden match stick or larger. Anything less and the system will behave as you described. Post your results
