Using a timing light hooked to the coil wire not #1 plug, aim the light at the front pulley. watch the pulley from Idle to full throttle, the pulley should appear steady at any speed, and rotate smoothly to the max. This is a way to look at the distributor cam bushing wear. If worn, it will be herky jerky and not steady. The irregularity (if present) should be no more than about 1/16" of movement. Rebuilding the distributor would be needed. If the pulley does not change position with speed the centrifugal advance needs to be repaired. Jim
