My 400 diesels too after being worked hard. In this case the engine is clean - no carbon buildup, and the timing is correct. The cause is a combonation of high compression and cheap gas. Seems as though the old 400 had the complete M&W kit put in it just before dad bought it. The trick is; let it idle for a cool down period, then put it in 5th gear, hold the break, let the clutch out and turn the key off. Good luck.
