This is something that has come up since the book was published (in fact, I think I fixed it in the second printing). It appears that although the decal placement charts said to put it on the hood, the guys in the factory placed the decals in both places in actual production. We've confirmed that in both photos and tractors, and I think this applies to the Super M family as well. The confusion seems to come from that they changed the placement on the Super MDs, but not the Super WD-6s, so if a guy just got done doing WDs, he might not have switched gears when the Super MDs started coming down the line. Most guys at the shows probably placed their decals according to the manual, but the manuals almost always show preproduction tractors (in order to have the manual ready for when production starts) and quite often, the decal placements were changed in between- we've got some photos at the archives that are marked "do not use-decals changed" or decals that are airbrushed in. I've talked to IH photographers who said the standard procedure was to ship them preproduction tractors, but to have them apply fresh decals that were to production standards, but again, those changed often.
