'Cause they don't use 'em. A solenoid is an electrically operated switch they use them in cars so they can use smaller contacts and wires on the key switch. Look at a solenoid- big wires from the battery and big wires to the starter (FORD type) or big wire going to the solenoid and a big piece of copper or woven wire or buss bars going from the solenoid to the starter motor, (GM types solenoid on the starter) and in both cases little wire from the start switch to the solenoid. Instead of a solenoid your Farmall uses a BIG switch that takes a little effort to push, big contacts big spring big wires. In the olden days(about when your Farmall was made) a lot of equipment had a starter pedal- no solenoid the big spring and big contacts often needed enough force to operate they figured most folks would need their feet to stomp the contacts closed.
