Stack the new band on top of the old band, drop a couple of bolts through the eyes of both bands and then compare how the circumference of the new band lines up with the old band. I think you will find there is very little, if any, difference.
You may have the actuating cam installed wrong, or maybe the cams have been reversed from left to right, and yes, there is a right and a left.
