Marty,
Try taking a new dollar bill (a 5 or a 10 will work too) and use it to burnish the points. The points probably have some oxidation on them if the tractor has sat without running for a while. If the points are really bad, replace them and gap to .020. Check continuity on the coil, should be a real low resistance, but not shorted. If that is all ok, try a new cap and rotor. Beyond that, try emailing Neil Yerigan at neily99370@aol.com. Neil repairs mags and other tractor electrics for a living, and has always been willing to help. If he can't answer your questions, he can repair it if you ship it to him. I'll let Neil tell you about that part. Phil
