The fact that East Moline is a Union plant has nothing to do with its closure. When you compare Grand Island to the East Moline plant, East Moline is truly the old "dinosaur" in terms of physical shape. Grand Island was built in the 1960's?, while East Moline is built in the 1920's??? Why keep an old plant when a new one has much more manufacturing flexibility?? These same types of statements were made when Farmall was closed. This "dinosaur" effect is also a reason why the Racine, WI. MAGNUM plant will be closing too. It's a early 20th century building that has lost its manufacturing flexibiltiy.
