The early IHC diesels, such as the MD and the TD-series crawlers, used the start on gas/run on diesel system. The concept is similar to the gas/distillate engine, but they were indeed true DIESELS, with injectors and all the other attributes of a diesel. I can see where it would be confusing, tho.
