Hylomar Gasket Jointing Compound. It comes in a spray can. You spray both sides of the gasket lightly and wait for the propellant to dry off. The blue residue remains plastic and seals well. A little bit goes a very long way. It is excellent for pretty well any gasket. I use it for water pump gaskets, thermostat gaskets, carburetor gaskets and cylinder head gaskets.
It does not get into galleries in the cooling system or carburetor, so it does not choke off apertures which should be open. If you need to undo the gasket years down the track it comes apart without difficulty and does not leave a residue requiring hours of work to remove.
