have not had a pesco pump apart recently. If I remember correct the springs keep the pieces that side the gears from getting end play. As the gears or other parts wear they keep it closed up to prevent oil passing the ends. Anything over but slightest bearing to shaft play with parts dry is to much. Pump won't turn free but shouldn't be to hard if lubed. If you already have the seals in all you have to loose by trying it is some hydraulic fluid and maybe a gasket or two. It will probably work but keep a eye on the engine oil level for a time.
