To: Big Diesel, Our 4300 is a 1962 serial# 87AH1013, it came from Kansas, and is in Ohio now. I wondered the same thing about putting the 817 in the 4586's. They were designed about the same time as JD's 531/619 engines that they put in the 8630's. It appears to be a well built engine piston cooling and is built heavy. Unfortunately I am getting a good look in the inside of one do to a broke crank. Parts are very costly due to them not being in the IH system. I must go to Komatzo/Dresser construction dealer to get parts. Tractors appear to have under gone a factory modification program similiar JD 8010/20. Changes in transmissions, wheels, and brakes in the early 60's. Hope to get it running this fall.
