I've never been overly impressed with powder coating. Several years ago I bought a brand new set of handle bars for my sons dirtbike. The sales guy made a big point of bragging up the fact these bars were powder coated instead of painted, and how much more durable that powder coating was compared to paint.
It only took 1/2 day of riding in the woods and there was very little powder coating left.
