You did the right thing by posting to this board. Your next step is to "seal the deal" and get it on a trailer. I'd love to see that on eBay and watch the action. Or you could take it to the Red Power Round-up in July as a whole tractor or just the attachment.
The gear box is kind of a noisy thing (gear lash) and it is constant mesh. It is probably still attached to the tractor but some owners might have preferred to remove it.
