if it is a one wire alternator, with only the big wire connected to the amp gauge, it has either a faulty regulator, or a bad diode in the bridge array. If you have an amp meter that reads amps and milliamps, remove the big wire at the altarnator and connect your hand held amp meter set to the amps range. (probably need to move the lead wires to a different red lead hole to do it. (do not start the tractor) if it reads amps that is going to require a rebuilt alt. (unless you are electrically operative) I recommend a 3 wire system as shown in the diagrams provided below. Jim
