Hello all --
The '47 cub PTO still won't stay engaged. Renewed PTO pilot bushing, replaced shift lever & collar, checked rear PTO shaft bearing - still staked down and appears to be fully rearward. I still have nearly a half inch of distance between the PTO shaft and trans. mainshaft. I've read that the front mainshaft bearing retainer may be installed backwards or may have failed allowing shaft to move forward. I've never had the trans apart as everything (except PTO) works fine and has for 10+ years, but I'm out of ideas. I would think if the mainshaft moved then gears woudn't line up and the clutch would not have enough room to separate and none of that is the case.
How much of a pain am I in for to check / replace that mainshaft bearing? I assume I need to split the tractor.
