Cleaning

I am brand new to the tractor scene.Recently bought a 350 Utility and while the gas tank is off being cleaned out and sealed thought it would be a good time to clean off many years of dirt,grease and crud.Tried Simple Green and a brush-changed the color from black to gray but didn't remove it down to the paint.Any help greatly appreciated.Thanks,Frank.
