Yup, there is a large bypass valve in the control valve, and if you have power steering, there is another smaller bypass valve associated with the priority valve, also in the control block. The exploded view in the parts manual or service manual shows it all pretty clearly. If you don't have the manuals, your parts man might be willing to print you a copy of his parts manual page. If you are disassembling your control block, take the time to clean out not only the orifice screen, but get any debris out of the hole it sits in. Mine had a wad of crud in there.
