mkirsch it's hard to use serial # to separate when which grills and bolsters were installed.
My late 1953 SH stage 1 serial #17417 has the stage 2 front bolster and sheet metal. It has November and December "Y" casting codes, including the front bolster. I have seen several pre 19234 serial #'ed 53 SH's with the "stage 2 front bolster and sheet metal.
Mine does have the 2 bolt starter.
Super H's had 3 different grills during production. "H" grill, stage 2 grill without the holes punched, and stage 2 grills with holes for cultivators.
