I think the cable type tel a depth systems on the 240 and 340 were used at the beginning of production, but were replaced with the linkage type, which was a simpler, more reliable set up. I`ve heard that some of the earlier cable type fast hitches were retrofitted with the linkage type as they failed. The lever you need was used on both 240 & 340. The rod is specific to the 240. I actually have an original 570 hour 1958 Farmall 240 that still has the working cable type tel a depth, so if you need a closeup pic, let me know. As to how they work, I`ll admit, I don`t know much more.
