Larry - Our 856 has the canister type oil filters with the rubber ring at the bottom for the housing groove which the can screws down upon. You put the filter element on and the can over it, then snug it down carefully while the rubber big O-ring seals it, no leaks ! I can get the filter elements from NAPA, Carquest, Case-IH, all fit fine, never had any problems, just gotta be observant, careful. I think ours is a 1969 year, but we did have a 1968 year one too with the canister oil filters. Both were diesel engine powered and a great pulling powerhouse which I still use for retired work now ......
